
Freshmen Lead Flashes Cross Country at All-Ohio Classic

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — Freshmen Camille Dunifer and Michael Hanselman were the first Kent State runners across the finish line in their respective races at the All-Ohio Classic on Friday.
Led by Dunifer, the Golden Flashes finished fourth in the women's 6K race. Dunifer placed 18th out of 281 runners with a time of 22:47.7. Kent State had four more individuals record sub-24:00 times, as graduate student Grace Smith (23:08.1) finished 30th, junior Ella McCollom (23:14.4) finished 32nd, sophomore Nora Salem (23:30.8) finished 45th and freshman Savanna Hershberger (23:50.0) finished 61st.
In the men's 8K, the Flashes were seventh in the team standings. For the second time in as many races this season, Hanselman was Kent State's top finisher and ran across the finish line in 25:06.8. Fellow freshmen Tanner Smith (25:50.9) and Owen Kelly (25:58.4) also completed the course in under 26 minutes and placed 46th and 52nd, respectively.
The Flashes will be back in action next week at the YSU Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27.
