CLEVELAND, Ohio- Senior defender Kelsey Salopek has earned Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Salopek scored the only goal of the contest for the Golden Flashes on the road against the Ball State University Cardinals on Sunday to help her team to a 1-0 victory and their first conference win of the season.
The Munhall, Pennsylvania native's goal was the second of MAC play in consecutive games, making her the only KSU player to score in conference play so far. Both of her goals have come from a Samantha Miller corner kick.
Salopek co-leads the team with Miller in points with seven off of three goals and one assist. The senior defender also has 14 shots with 10 of them on target this season in nine starts for the Blue and Gold.
Salopek and the Flashes are back in action at home on Thursday as they will take on the University of Massachusetts at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
