Wood Records Ten Saves as Flashes Fall in Return to Murphy-Mellis Field

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team returned home to Murphy-Mellis Field on Friday afternoon as the team hosted MAC opponent Miami, falling 7-0 to the RedHawks. The Golden Flashes (1-7, 0-2) received a strong performance in the cage from senior Allison Wood, who notched a career-high ten saves in the contest.
The Flashes were stout defensively in the first quarter, not allowing the RedHawks to register a shot until they were able to find the back of the cage with just 30 seconds remaining in the period. Miami would add two more goals in the second quarter to build a 3-0 halftime advantage. In a similar fashion to the first quarter, the RedHawks had limited action in front of the Kent State goal before finding their fourth of the game with 19 seconds remaining in the period. In the final quarter of play, Miami added three more goals to secure a comfortable 7-0 victory. Maia Sarrabayrouse recorded a defensive save for the Flashes in the fourth quarter, the team's third of the season.
Kent State will return to action on Sunday, September 28, at noon, as the team heads to Ball State for a crucial MAC contest.
