Kent, Ohio- The Kent State Soccer team returns home for their second straight home game on Sunday when they take on the University at Buffalo on Sunday inside Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes earned three points in the conference home-opener in a Thursday matinee, in a 2-1 win over UMass. It was the first all-time meeting between the schools as the Minutewomen joined the MAC this season.
Junior midfielder Samantha Miller got the Flashes on the board first in the 21st-minute with an Olimpico from a corner kick. She was able to sneak the ball in the top right portion of the net for the goal to give her team a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
KSU would build on that lead in the 66th-minute as Kelsey Salopek came quickly down the field and fired a long-range shot that found the back of the net. The reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Week has now scored a goal in each of the first three conference games of the season for the Blue and Gold.
In the 79th-minute, UMass capitalized on a KSU penalty in the box as Morgan Bellamy was able to capitalize with a penalty goal to bring it to 2-1. The Flashes finished with solid play in the back-line for the final 10 minutes to secure the victory at home.
Kent State led the game in the shooting category 12-9 in overall shots and 5-4 in shots-on-goal. The Minutewomen were able to control the corner kick statistic with a tally of 6-5. Leah Shaffer grabbed three more saves to her name in the win.
Scouting Buffalo
Buffalo has produced an impressive 6-2-1 record so far this season, with a 2-1 record in conference play early on. They are currently tied with Kent State and two other schools for second place in the MAC Standings with six points. They bring an experienced group back from a team that reached the MAC Semifinals in 2024 with a 11-2-7 record.
One of those returners includes a junior midfielder from Sherrill, N.Y., Laiken Kiser. She has scored five goals so far this season, which is good for second in the conference.
Jasmine Guerber leads the MAC in shots this season with 24 shots, along with three goals and four assists. Last year she led the Bulls with points with 13 off of six goals and one assist. Ashley Reyes and Adriana Victoriano will also be names to watch for Buffalo as they have scored two goals this season each.
Series History
Sunday's matchup will be the 29th all-time meeting between the Golden Flashes and the Bulls, as KSU holds the slight edge in the all-time series, holding a record of 14-11-3. The two teams tied 2-2 in Western New York a year ago.
