Babicová Leads Golden Flashes With 1-Under Opening Round at UCF Challenge

Golden Flashes sit eighth after opening round
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kent State Dr. Paula Treckel women's golf team opened the spring portion of their schedule Sunday at the UCF Challenge, Presented by PDI, completing the first round at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Kent State finished the opening round in eighth place with a 4-over 292, placing the Golden Flashes in the top half of the team standings in a competitive field. Auburn leads at 8-under, followed closely by Baylor and Mississippi State, each one stroke back.
Petra Babicová led the Golden Flashes, finishing tied for 16th after carding a 1-under 71. Her round was highlighted by steady play throughout the day, including 14 pars and birdies on two of the final three holes. Isabella Goyette tied for 23rd at even-par 72 with three birdies, while Leon Takagi finished tied for 30th with a 1-over 73. Veronika Kedronová added a 4-over 76 to round out the team scoring, placing 63rd. Gracie Larsen and Aryn Matthews each finished tied for 74th with 5-over 77s.
Kent State made a strong turn, with four golfers at par or better through the front nine. Takagi led the way at 1-under after nine, while Babicová and Goyette each posted pars. The Golden Flashes continued to find success on the par-5s throughout the round, finishing the day four-under-par on the course's final two par-5 holes.
Kent State will continue play Monday with the second round of the UCF Challenge. Teams will tee off at 9:00 a.m.
