
Kent State Continues MAC Play Hosting Bowling Green on Tuesday Night

KENT – Kent State Men's Basketball (11-3) will seek to start MAC play 3-0 on Tuesday, Jan. 6 when they host Bowling Green State University. Tip-off between the Golden Flashes and Falcons is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside the M.A.C. Center. It marks the 174th meeting between the Kent State and Bowling Green men's basketball programs.
Last Time Out
Kent State is coming off a close victory over NIU on Saturday. Jan. 3. The Blue and Gold took control out of the gate with cousins Delrecco Gillespie and Rob Whaley Jr. combining for a quick 14 points. Despite finding many good looks from deep the lid stayed on the rim for the Golden Flashes well into the first half. KSU was stonewalled at 22 points as Northern Illinois began to chip away at the lead. The Flashes were able to start heating up with under six minutes to play in the first with Morgan Safford making their first three of the game at the 4:37 mark. Though Kent State took a 47-29 lead into the break, the Huskies came out hot to start the second frame going on a 13 to 0 run to close the game to within 10. NIU's Makhai Valentine carried the Huskies as they closed the game to five points with 12:30 remaining. NIU ultimately outscored Kent State 47-30 in the second half. The Golden Flashes made several key stops while taking advantage of clutch free throws from Gillespie and Quinn Woidke to hang on for the 77-73 victory.
Kent State vs. Bowling Green
Kent State University and Bowling Green State University are sister intuitions dating back to their founding year of 1910. One KSU's oldest foes on the basketball court, Kent State's all-time series with Bowling Green goes clear back to the 1916-1917 season splitting their first two games. Tuesday's matchup will be the 174th between the two programs with Kent State trailing by just three games holding an overall record of 85-88 against BGSU. The Golden Flashes have owned the series as of late having won the last 12 meetings dating back to the 2018-2019 season when the Falcons won both meetings. Kent State won both matchups during the 2024-2025 season with the Flashes prevailing 75-57 on Jan. 28, and 91-84 on Feb. 18.
