KENT, Ohio – Kent State lost to Bowling Green, 3-0 (16-25, 20-25, 22-25) on Thursday inside of the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (6-8, 0-3 MAC) slowed their guests' attack early with three blocks while holding the Falcons to a .143 hitting percentage in the first set. It was a slow start for the offense, however, as Kent State recorded only six kills with 10 errors en route to a 25-16 setback.
After trailing by four multiple times in the second, the Flashes got within one at 16-15 on a kill by freshman Ashley Verhey. Bowling Green answered with three straight points as part of a 5-1 run to begin pulling away for a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set featured five lead changes and 14 ties, the last coming on a kill by redshirt junior Adalynn Ginley that made it 20-20. The Falcons were able to take four of the next five points and won the set 25-22 to complete the sweep.
Senior Mercedez Brown led Kent State offensively with eight kills and senior Christina Vigil totaled 24 assists. Junior Lesley Furuta tallied a team-high 12 digs.
Kent State and Bowling Green will meet again on Friday with first serve from the M.A.C. Center scheduled for 6 p.m.
