KENT, Ohio — Kent State closed out an important conference victory on Wednesday night inside the MAC Center by a score of 73-64 over the Bowling Green Falcons. In the victory, the Golden Flashes were led by junior guard Mya Babbitt with 25 points.
KSU started the game out in control in the first quarter as the team shot the ball well to get out to an initial lead. Babbitt scored 10 of the first 13 points for the home team including two three-point makes.
The defense tightened up in the second quarter for the Flashes as they held the Falcons to just nine points, taking a 34-27 lead heading into the halftime break.
The defense continued into the third quarter as Kent State held Bowling Green to just three field-goal makes to account for 11 points, which was enough for a 10-point lead heading into what would be high scoring output in the final frame.
The Falcons did their best to mount a comeback, but the Flashes were able to ice the game in what was a long fourth quarter that included a combined 17 fouls from both teams. The Blue and Gold were able to knock down 11 of 15 free throws at the line to help win the game by a nine-point margin.Â
Both teams shot the ball at a high frequency combining for 123 field-goal attempts. Freshman Caitlyn Holmes also finished in double digits with 11 points while Emory Klatt produced eight points and seven boards. Gray also finished with eight points for KSU.
The Flashes return back to the MAC Center for another home game at 1 P.M. on Saturday. They will take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the second part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge.
