
Women’s Hoops to Host App State for MAC-Sun Belt Challenge Matchup on Saturday

Kent State will take a break from league action to host App State in a MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (10-12, 5-6 MAC) are back in action after beating Bowling Green, 73-64, on Wednesday. The victory puts Kent State in sole possession of seventh in the Mid-American Conference standings. Mya Babbitt came out aggressive with 10 of her game-high 25 points in the first quarter, and the Flashes held the lead the rest of the night. Caitlyn Holmes scored a career-high 11 points for the second game in a row. Emory Klatt (9 rebounds) and Riley Rismiller (8 rebounds) helped Kent State post a dominant 52-31 rebounding advantage.
Junior Mya Babbitt is the third leading scorer in the MAC at 16.9 points per game and has three of the top seven single-game scoring performances in the league. Babbitt is second in the conference with 51 three-point field goals. Juniors Riley Rismiller (8.5 ppg) and Tatiana Thomas (7.1 ppg) provide low post options. Rismiller has three double-doubles and Thomas is grabbing 5.8 boards per conference contest. Senior Dionna Gray (6.4 ppg) is fourth in the MAC in assists with 5.2 per game.
Scouting App State
The Mountaineers (10-12, 3-9 SBC) have lost two in a row and are just 3-8 on the road this season. App State plays a deliberate style that ranks 330th in the country in pace of play. The Mountaineers allow the fewest points in the Sun Belt (59.4 ppg) but rank 12th in scoring (64.0 ppg).
Guards Daisia Mitchell (10.8 ppg), Jayden McBride (10.5 ppg) and Emma Smith (10.1 ppg) lead the team in scoring. McBride is the top three-point threat with 37 makes while Smith is the leader with averages of 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals per contest.

• This will be the first ever meeting on the hardwood between Kent State and App State.

• Kent State is 2-3 all-time in MAC-Sun Belt Challenge play, which began during the 2023-24 campaign.
• The Golden Flashes recorded victories over Louisiana and Troy in their first two road games of the challenge prior to a setback against James Madison in the season opener.
• Kent State seeks its first challenge victory inside of the M.A.C. Center after falling to Old Dominion and James Madison the past two years.
