
Baidy Ba Breaks 5K Record to Open Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – Baidy Ba set the school record in the men's 5,000-meter run on Thursday evening as Kent State began competition at the Raleigh Relays.
Ba closed with his fastest 400-meter split of the race to cross the finish line in 13:59.99 to beat his outdoor personal-best by more than 27 seconds and break Nick Stricklen's record of 14:06.57 set in 2022. The fifth-year runner is now the record holder for both the indoor and outdoor 5K and owns four program records overall.
Kristen Jay claimed the No. 9 spot on the Golden Flashes' all-time performance list in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 158'-10" on her fourth attempt to place third in the javelin. Matilde Morbin made her collegiate debut in the event and finished 12th with a top throw of 142'-9".
Kent State will return to action on Friday morning as the three-day meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
