CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its specialty awards for the 2026 indoor track and field season on Thursday, with Kent State's Michael Schober named Women's Assistant Coach of the Year and Ayden Bath named Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer.
Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Nathan Fanger was previously named Women's Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Flashes to their first indoor women's title since 2014.
Schober earned the fifth Assistant Coach of the Year of his career as his group of athletes earned two golds and two silvers while totaling 85 points at the conference meet, which would have been good for fourth in the team standings. All four Flashes in the pentathlon recorded scores of 3,500 or higher and combined for 20 points. Karsyn Spears became Kent State's first 800-meter champion since 2012 and Amryne Chilton captured gold in the 200-meter dash.
Bath scored in three events for 21 total points. He captured his second heptathlon title with a score of 5,596, the highest at the championship meet since 2021. Bath ran a 60-meter hurdles personal-best of 7.79 seconds during the heptathlon, which ranks 61st in the NCAA this season. In the open 60m hurdles, he placed second with a time of 7.95 seconds. Bath finished his busy week with a fourth-place finish in the high jump by clearing 6'-5".
