
Men Break 4x100 Relay Record as Sprinters Shine at Spec Towns Invite

ATHENS, Ga. — Highlighted by a record-setting men's 4x100-meter relay race, Kent State posted four top-10 sprints and relays times in the program record book as competition concluded on Saturday at the Spec Towns Invitational.
Sean Callahan Jr., Ryan Gruss, Chaz Sakala and Micah Coates won the 4x100m relay with a time of 39.68 seconds to beat the previous record set at the Mid-American Conference Championships two years ago by .01 seconds.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Yissis Cortijo Dominc, Ainhoa Reparaz Sanchez, Laila Eiland and Amryne Chilton recorded the second fastest time in Golden Flashes history and finished third in 45.15 seconds.
Individually, Reparaz Sanchez ran the second fastest 100-meter dash time in Kent State history to place 12th. Her time of 11.64 seconds is the fastest by a Flash since 2000.
Casey Musgrave crossed the finish line in 54.15 seconds to place ninth in the women's 400-meter dash. Her time ranks sixth on Kent State's all-time performance list.
The Flashes claimed three of the top four spots in the men's 100-meter dash. Jacob Stanley won the event in 10.55 seconds, while Callahan Jr. (10.67) placed third and Sakala (10.70) placed fourth. Â Gabrielle Hammonds finished fifth in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.97 seconds.
Lanee Hall was Kent State's only competitor in field events on Saturday and placed fifth in the women's triple jump with a personal-best mark of 42'-4", which ranks fifth in the program record book.
The Flashes will compete at the Virginia Challenge on Friday April 17 and Saturday, April 18.
