EVANS, Ga. – Veronika Kedronová of the Kent State Dr. Paula Treckel women's golf team shot a 2-over-par 74 in the opening round of the Augusta National Women's Amateur at Champions Retreat Golf Club on Wednesday, sitting tied for 49th heading into Thursday's second round.
Kedronová got off to a fast start, birdieing her first hole on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Bluff nine — officially No. 10 of the tournament layout. She added another birdie at No. 14 around a bogey at No. 13 to make the turn at 1 under. The junior kept the momentum going on the Arnold Palmer-designed Island nine with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 2 and 3, reaching 3 under through 12 holes before a rough four-hole stretch featuring three bogeys and a double bogey pushed her to 2 over for the day.
Maria Jose Marin, the No. 1-ranked player in college golf by Clippd, and 17-year-old Soomin Oh of South Korea share the lead after both firing 7-under-par 65s. Wednesday's field scoring average of 72.22 set a new record for any single round in ANWA history, continuing a trend of declining first-round averages dating back to 2021. A record nine players posted bogey-free rounds, and 31 players broke par.
Kedronová tees off Thursday at 9:21 a.m. ET from No. 1 with the same group as Wednesday.
