Golden Flashes Fall in Series Finale Vs. Ohio

KENT – Kent State Softball (17-25, 7-13 MAC) fell in a hard-fought series finale to Ohio University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 9-6. The Golden Flashes were able to push across runs in the late innings with the rally ultimately falling short.

The Golden Flashes found themselves trailing early as Ohio plated three runs in the top of the first and added two more in the second to build a 5-0 lead.

Kent State answered in the third inning with their best offensive frame of the day. Brynn Libler tripled to right center to get things started, and Caleigh Shaulis followed with a walk to put two on. Megan Claerhout then singled to score Libler. Ashlyn Porter added a single to load the bases before Gabby Quinn came through with a two-RBI single to score both Claerhout and Shaulis to make it a 6-3 ballgame.

Kent State's biggest blow came in the sixth inning. Gabby Quinn drew a walk to lead off, and Leilani Johnson followed with a two-run home run to center field cutting into the deficit to 8-5.

Shaulis kept the rally going in the seventh, doubling to right field before Claerhout brought her home with an RBI single to make it 9-6.

Johnson was the offensive standout of the afternoon, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in what was a strong individual performance. Claerhout had a productive day with two hits and two RBIs, while Quinn contributed a hit and two RBIs despite drawing two walks. Libler's third-inning triple sparked the Flashes' comeback bid, and Shaulis reached base multiple times including her seventh-inning double. Riley Miller went the full seven innings in the circle for Kent State.

On Deck for the Flashes

Kent State is back in action on Tuesday, April 21 for their final non-conference games of the regular season hosting Youngstown State University at Devine Dimond. The Golden Flashes and Penguins will player a doubleheader with 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. scheduled start times.
