Golden Flashes Move Up to Seventh After Round Two at NCAA Chapel Hill Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Veronika Kedronová posted a 2-under 68 to fuel the Kent State Dr. Paula Treckel women's golf team's best round of the tournament Tuesday, as the Golden Flashes climbed one spot to a tie for seventh after 36 holes at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional.
Kent State carded a 7-over 287 in Round 2 at The UNC Finley Golf Course, improving by two strokes on its opening 289 to reach the final day at 16-over 576. The Flashes share seventh place with Michigan State.
Kedronová's 68 - one of 11 of sub-70 rounds posted on a day the field averaged 72.80 - moved the junior up 10 spots into a tie for eighth individually at 1-under 139. She is one of only 11 players in the 68-player field under par through two rounds.
Petra Babicová followed with an even-par 70 to climb into a tie for 17th at 141 (+1), giving Kent State two golfers inside the top 20. Leon Takagi (74, T-36), Isabella Goyette (75, T-45) and Gracie Larsen (77, T-52) rounded out the Kent State lineup.
Texas surged to the top of the team leaderboard with a 9-under 271 to reach 10-under 550 overall, opening a four-shot lead over Round 1 leader North Carolina (554, -6). Oklahoma State (565, +5) sits third, followed by NC State (567, +7) and Mississippi State (569, +9) in the fifth and final advancing position. Virginia is sixth at +14, two shots ahead of the Golden Flashes and Spartans.
Kent State enters the final round seven shots back of fifth place with 18 holes remaining. The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
ROUND 3
The Golden Flashes will play alongside Michigan State and High Point in Round 3, with all five Kent State golfers teeing off Hole 1 between 8:55 and 9:39 a.m. Larsen leads off the Kent State lineup at 8:55, followed by Goyette (9:06), Takagi (9:17), Babicová (9:28) and Kedronová (9:39).
