KENT, Ohio – Sawyer Solitaria led off the ninth with a solo home run, and Brady Marshall capped a four-run walk-off rally with a two-run single, as Kent State escaped with a 6-5 victory over Eastern Michigan on Friday afternoon at Schoonover Stadium. The Golden Flashes improved to 36-11 overall and 21-7 in MAC play.

Kent State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Brody Williams and Solitaria, but Eastern Michigan chipped away with single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth before taking a 5-2 advantage on a TJ Williams RBI single in the eighth. Easton Tumis started and went five innings, allowing three runs, one earned, before Evan Holewinski took over and was touched for two more. Caden Leonard earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless ninth to improve to 3-2.

With the Golden Flashes trailing 5-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth, Solitaria sparked the comeback with a leadoff home run to left center. Alejandro Covas and Nolan Belcher reached base on singles, and Matt Thompson would pinch run for Belcher. Grady Mee would enter and pinch hit for Hunter Klotz and reach base on a walk. A wild pitch scored Covas to make it 5-4 and set the stage for Marshall, who lined a two-run single to right to complete the comeback. Marshall finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Nolan Belcher went 3-for-4 and Williams added two hits.

Kent State continues the series tomorrow at Schoonover Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
