KENT, Ohio – Eastern Michigan scored three times in the tenth inning to hand Kent State a 10-7 defeat in extra innings Saturday afternoon at Schoonover Stadium, evening the series at one game apiece. The Golden Flashes fell to 36-12 overall and 21-8 in MAC play.

Kent State grabbed a 4-0 lead through four innings on a solo home run by Alejandro Covas in the second and a Grady Mee three-run blast in the fourth, but Eastern Michigan erupted for four runs in the fifth to tie the game. Covas answered with a two-run triple in the seventh to put the Flashes back in front, 6-4, before the Eagles rallied for three in the eighth, capped by a Zirwas two-run single and a wild pitch to take a 7-6 lead.

Sawyer Solitaria knotted it at seven with a solo home run in the ninth, but Kent State's bullpen couldn't hold in extras as Eastern Michigan plated three in the tenth on a Zirwas RBI single, a Knupp RBI double, and a Crane RBI single to seal it.

Ciaran Caughey started and went four innings before a parade of five relievers couldn't stop the bleeding, with Brody Krzysiak taking the loss. Covas finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, and three RBI, while Mee went 1-for-4 with three RBI, and Solitaria added a home run. Luke Matthews went 3-for-6 at the top of the order.

Kent State closes out the series Sunday at Schoonover Stadium with Senior Day festivities, first pitch set for 1 p.m.
