Flashes Soccer Takes On Texas Tech In Trip To Lone Star State

Lubbock, Texas- The Kent State Soccer team makes their trip down to the lone star state for their final non-conference matchup of the season for a date with Texas Tech of the Big 12 on Friday night. First kick is set for 7 P.M. local time(8 P.M. ET) on ESPN+ at John Walker Soccer Complex.
Last Time Out
Much like last year's matchup between the Kent State Golden Flashes and the Cornell Big Red, Sunday's game ended in a tightly-contested draw after 90 minutes of play. This year the two teams ended in a scoreless draw and it was the first regular-season scoreless draw for the Flashes since 2024 against the Ohio Bobcats.
KSU had three golden opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net in the second half, but all three shots were either contested saves or just high over the net. The blue and gold put seven shots up in each half to account for 14 total on the game.Â
The Big Red also shot the ball 14 times with four shots in the first half and 10 in the second half. Cornell finished with eight shots on goal while Kent State finished with three. Both teams were also even in corner kicks with four each, while Kent State won the possession battle slightly with possession 51% of the game.
Senior Leah Shaffer played all 90 minutes in net for the blue and gold and finished with the second-most saves in a game for her career with eight. Shaffer along with Ava Todd, Allison Burkey, Kiyomi, McCausland, Josie Morgan and Karsyn Teffner were among the six Golden Flashes honored pre-game on Senior Day.
Scouting Texas Tech
The Red Raiders have started the season without a loss with a 3-0-3 record with wins against Hawaii, Boise State and San Diego State. Earlier this season, Texas Tech found themselves in the top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches poll after finishing last season with a 14-2-5 record and a win in the NCAA Tournament.
The team also returns their leading goal scorer from the 2025 season in Taylor Zdrojewski who finished third in the Big 12 in goals with 16 while also contributing three assists for a total of 35 points. This year she is also leading the team in scoring as she has scored four of the team's seven goals so far in 2025.
Storie Sexton has contributed two goals this season for the squad from Texas off of two shots on goal. Kylie Bahr has scored the other goal for the Red Raiders this season while also dishing out an assist for three points.Â
Addie Todd will start in net for the home team as she has played all 540 minutes as the goalkeeper this season. She has been able to save 24 shots from opponents on 59 shots faced. She has also allowed just three goals in seven games with three shutouts as well.
Series History
Friday's meeting will be the first all-time meeting between the Golden Flashes and the Red Raiders. It will be the eighth meeting for the Flashes among Big 12 opponents, as the Flashes currently have a 1-5-1 record against that conference.
Up Next
After a trip to Texas, the Flashes will turn their attention to the Mid-American Conference schedule as MAC play will begin on Thursday, September 17th, on the road at Toledo for a 7 P.M. start.
