Caitlin Walsh joined the Kent State field hockey team as assistant coach in 2019. Walsh comes to Kent State from Davidson, where she spent three seasons also as an assistant.
“I am very excited to welcome Caitlin to the Kent State family,” Head Coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer said. “I have been fortunate to know Caitlin as a player and coach, and she has always been extremely passionate about the game and developing young women. Her experience at a competitive program like Old Dominion, with its wonderful field hockey tradition, will be a huge asset for our program here at Kent State. I am confident that Caitlin’s work ethic and experience in recruiting will help Kent State continue to build upon its legacy of winning.”
Walsh's first season saw Kent State achieve an 11-9 overall record, going 5-1 against other MAC opponents. Her efforts also assisted in the Golden Flashes securing the #1 seed in the MAC tournament.
At Davidson, Walsh assisted in all aspects of the program, including practice and game planning, recruiting, travel and video analysis.
Prior to her stint at Davidson, Walsh spent a year as an assistant athletic-academic advisor at Old Dominion while coaching for the Focus Field Hockey Club in Norfolk, Va. following a stellar collegiate career with the Monarchs.
As an assistant athletic-academic advisor, Walsh developed academic support plans, monitored study hall sessions and helped student-athletes create weekly academic goals.
At Focus Field Hockey, Walsh provided one-on-one instruction and team training for players ranging from beginners to advanced skill levels, working to educate players about the rules and improve their fundamental skills.
In her collegiate career at Old Dominion, Walsh was a three-year starter for the Monarchs in the midfield and on defense, starting 59 games. She finished her career with 14 points on five goals and four assists, helping her team to two Colonial Athletic Association titles (2011-12), three Big East Tournament appearances (2013-15) and three NCAA Tournament appearances (2011-13).
