Minton was hired as an assistant coach early in the 2022 season.Β HeΒ served as a volunteer assistant at Ohio State during the 2021 season.
He remained an assistant coach with the Flashes through the hiring of head coach Heather Hefner prior to the 2024 season. As part of Hefner's inaugural staff in 2024, Minton helped the Flashes to a 7-12 overall record, finishing fourth in the MAC at 5-3. In the MAC tournament, Kent State recorded a 1-0 overtime win over five-seed Ball State in the quarterfinal before falling 3-2 in the semifinal to one-seed James Madison. The 2024 team featured four players who earned All-MAC honors.Β
MAC field hockey is not new to Minton, as he was a graduate assistant at Ohio for two years while he completed his master's degree in coaching education.Β
He has been playing field hockey since age 11 and most recently played at the University of Chester in England. There, he also pursued a master's degree in biomedical science and coached the first women's team at the university.Β
Minton initially graduated fromΒ Aberystwyth University in Wales with honors and a degree in biology. He played field hockey there as well, winning back-to-back championships in 2013 and 2014 and playing in the first team for four years total.
