One of three seniors in the mix at middle linebacker, Howard Bowens will get plenty of reps this spring with starter Cobrani Mixon out. 2009 Junior Season Played in all 12 games at linebacker and on special teams…made 12 tackles…had three stops against Western Michigan Oct. 31. 2008 Sophomore Season Earned playing time in eight games almost exclusively on special teams…returned a kickoff 14 yards on Oct. 4 against Akron…posted three tackles. 2007 Freshman Season Appeared in 10 games on special teams, recording 10 tackles, eight solo…made a career-high three stops against Iowa State on Aug. 30…shared the team’s Outstanding Special Teams Award with Nate Reed…was one of nine true freshmen to earn a varsity letter. Prior to Kent State Was a two-time All-Baseline selection at Claremont High School…was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, recording 135 tackles with four sacks and two interceptions…despite missing two games as a senior, finished that year with 100 tackles and six sacks to go along with a pair of interceptions…was a three-year starter for the Wolfpack.
