Ryan Yip came back to the Kent State program in August 2019, serving as the Men’s assistant coach. The former Canadian professional golfer spent 6 years on now what is called the Korn Ferry Tour. He had 6 Top 10’s in 117 events. Yip played on PGA Tour Canada, winning the 2009 Jane Rogers Championship. In 2013 and 2014 Yip was on the Asian Tour and OneAsia Tour, where he won the 2014 PGM Port Dickson Championship. Yip has also played in 3 PGA Tour Events 2013 US Open, 2018 Canadian Open T22, and 2019 Canadian Open.
Yip had an outstanding career competing as a Golden Flash under Coach Page. Yip was an All-MAC First Team performer each of his four years. In 2003 Yip was MAC Freshman of the Year and 2005 Co-MAC Golfer of the Year. Yip won 3 times in his college career. He was inducted into the Varsity “K” Hall of Fame in 2019.
Since joining the coaching staff at Kent State, Yip has helped produce 8 Academic All MAC Players and 6 All American Scholars, the Flashes have also had the second highest team GPA of 3.76. When it comes to on the golf course the Flashes have seen much success with 3 Team titles, 5 individual victories, 8 All MAC Selections, 2 MAC Golfers of the Year and 1 Freshman Golfer of the Year. We have seen Kent State ranked as high as 28th in the country under coach Yip, with Chris Vandette individually ranked 10th.
