General Notes: Battled through many injury issues last season...can produce solid numbers with some consistency this season...a threat from three-point range...brings speed to the perimeter defense...coaches looking for a good season from a veteran in the program.
2007-08: (Junior Season) Started all 24 games she appeared in...was third on the team in scoring with 10.8 points per game and averaged 3.5 rebounds per game...led the team with 63 steals and was third in the conference and 49th in the nation with 2.6 steals per game...after returning from a six-game absence on Jan. 4, she hit double figures in scoring in nine of the next 13 games...set a career high with 24 points against Buffalo Jan. 22...went 7-of-14 from the field, 3-of-4 from three-point range and 7-of-8 from the foul line that game...scored 21 points two games later against Toledo Jan. 30...had 13 points and a career high 12 rebounds against Central Michigan Feb. 9, her first career double-double...recorded eight steals against Northern Illinois March 13, tied with four other conference players for the most steals in a game...was second in the league with an average of 3.4 steals per game in conference play...added 45 assists and six blocks...had three or more thefts in a game 10 times during a 12-game span...a workhorse the whole year, averaged 36.5 minutes per game, third in the conference...played 40 minutes or more seven times.
2006-07: (Sophomore Season) Appeared in all 28 games with four starts...averaged 5.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game...had an impressive season behind the arc, hitting 24-54 (.444) from three-point range to lead the team...scored a career-high of 15 points twice, the last in a win over St. Francis...was 6-11 from the field, 2-5 from behind the three-point line, and 1-2 from the free throw line in that game...scored 15 points in a win over Alcorn State...set career-highs in rebounds (5) vs. Ohio and assists (5) vs. Akron.
2005-06: (Redshirt Season) Played in just one game because of a knee injury from her freshman season...was redshirted... grabbed two rebounds in five minutes versus Lipscomb (11/18/05).
2004-05: (Freshman Season) Played in nine games with six starts before tearing her ACL during a December practice...averaged 5.3 points and 1.3 steals per game...excellent free throw shooter...made 19-of-23 (.826) from the line...scored a season-high 14 points in the loss to UW-Green Bay...was 4-for-7 from the field, 2-of-4 from 3-point range and 4-for-4 from the FT line in that game...scored 10 points in the win over Texas Southern...had eight points vs. Rice and seven in the win at Montana State...had at least one steal in eight straight games.
Prior to Kent State: Led the Arthur Hill Lumberjacks in Saginaw, Mich. to an 18-2 record her senior year after averaging 11 points, six rebounds and four steals... Team captain and MVP in 2004...received honorable mention all-state honors as a senior and sophomore ...a three-time All-Valley selection, named to the first team her sophomore and senior seasons and to the second team as a junior...named to the all-area team four times...was coached by Vonnie Kilmer at Arthur Hill...helped lead her AAU team to a third place finish in the state in 2003-04...also participated in track and field where she broke two school records in the 400-meter dash and the high jump.
Personal: Full name is Asheley Meshell Harkins... born April 16, 1986...daughter of MeShell Matthews ...graduated in May with a bachelor of arts in criminal justice...is working toward a second degree in applied conflict management to be completed in August.
