Kent State track and field alum Christian Champen returned as assistant coach in October 2022. The program’s pole vault record holder, Champen will also mentor student-athletes in the high jump beginning with the 2023-24 campaign.
The Golden Flashes totaled 35.5 pole vault points in Mid-American Conference Championships action during his first season on staff, highlighted by Leah Pasqualetti’s indoor title. Angelina Lotarski earned All-MAC honors for the first time with a second-place finish at the outdoor championship after tying for third during the indoor season. Kristian Kneffler vaulted to fifth on Kent State’s all-time indoor list by clearing 17’-1” to take third at the MAC Indoor Championships.
The Clayton, Ohio native received a Bachelor of Integrative Studies from Kent State in May 2022.
