Hannah Poynor has been hired as an assistant coach for the Kent State volleyball program and reunites with third-year head coach Haley Eckerman following one season as an assistant coach at Randolph-Macon College. They previously worked together during Eckerman’s time at Lamar University.
Poynor returns to the Division I ranks after helping guide Randolph-Macon to a 19-10 overall record and Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament championship match appearance last fall. The Yellow Jackets had a trio of all-conference selections and outside hitter Grace Parker was named an AVCA All-American for the third time. Hired in January 2023, Poynor headed the program’s recruiting efforts, handled the majority of logistics and assisted with opponent scouting.
She served as Director of Volleyball Operations at VCU during the 2022 season and was responsible for taking care of behind-the-scenes needs.
Prior to that, Poynor was a graduate assistant at UT Arlington for two years. Her duties with the Mavericks included travel arrangements, analytics, video coding and overseeing student managers.
Her career began as a student manager and assistant at Lamar from 2016-19, helping with video coding, opponent scouting and summer camps.
Poynor earned a Bachelor of Arts in American Sign Language from Lamar in May 2020 and completed a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from UT Arlington in December 2021.
