Tamika Brekke recently finished her second year an assistant coach at Kent State and coordinates recruiting efforts.
Over the past two seasons, three Golden Flashes surpassed 1,000 career digs, while Erin Gardner became the third player in program history to eclipse 2,000. Gardner, Gracey Jarecke and Bryn Roberts combined to be named MAC East Division Defensive Player of the Week on four occasions.
Kent State saw increased scoring from its service game in 2023 and totaled 150 aces for the season, the most since the 2015 campaign. For the first time since 2007, two players recorded 30 or more aces in the same season.
During her first season, Brekke helped the Golden Flashes post the best non-conference record (9-2) since 2008 and rank 43rd in the nation in digs per set (16.00).
Prior to Kent State, she served as a volunteer assistant at Kansas State during the 2021 season and helped the Wildcats make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016. and she was promoted to graduate manager in February.
Brekke began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Western New Mexico in 2020.
The Eden Prairie, Minnesota native totaled 908 digs as a Division I student-athlete, which began at North Carolina Central in 2015. Brekke transferred to North Dakota for her final three seasons and helped the Fighting Hawks capture back-to-back Big Sky Tournament championships along with automatic bids for the NCAA Tournament. The 2017 UND squad posted a program record 30 wins.
Brekke earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Dakota in 2018 and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western New Mexico University in 2021.
