2009-10: Went 18-12 with three pins, one tech fall and one major decision...placed second at Cleveland State Open with a 4-1 mark...pinned Northern Illinois' Scott Penny in lone MAC dual appearance...went 4-2 with a pin at Southern Scuffle...finished 3-2 at Hokie Open, beginning the year at 174...won two matches at Oklahoma Gold Classic...placed eighth at U.S. Junior Open, competing in freestyle.

2008-09: Was redshirted...finished with a 13-6 record in open tournaments at 184 pounds...finished second at the first Ashland Open (11/15)...took third at the Michigan State Open (11/9) and fifth at the Kent State Open (1/18).

Prior to Kent State: Finished with a 137-32 record while at Northmont...the 137 wins is a Thunderbolt school record...named first team All-Great Western Ohio Conference and first team all-area his junior and senior seasons...also qualified for the Ohio State Wrestling Championships his junior and senior seasons...was coached by his father while at Northmont...Thunderbolts won two GWOC championships while he was in high school...also competed for the Raider Wrestling Club...was a Troy Christian Disney Dual Champ.

Prior to Kent State: Born June 29, 1990...son of Scott and Katherine Newburg...has six siblings: Luke, Micah, Jonah, Shanya, Gabe and Eli...father Scott played football at Ball State for four seasons...majoring in business.
