Prior to joining the KSU staff, Kratzer spent the previous six years (1995-2000) as head coach at Lindenwood (Mo.) University after serving as head coach for five seasons (1990-94) at Hastings (Neb.) College. He also doubled as athletic director during his last five years at Lindenwood.
Kratzer and former Kent State head coach Dean Pees were on the staff at Miami University in 1986 and led the then-Redskins to the Mid-American Conference championship that season. Prior to that, Kratzer was the head coach at Ohio Northern University from 1984-85, an assistant at Indiana University in 1983 and the head coach at Trenton and Lees Summit high schools in Missouri from 1977-82.
A native of Lathrop, Mo., Kratzer earned a bachelors degree in physical education from Missouri Valley in 1971 and a masters in education from Central Missouri State University in 1976.
