Football Begins Spring Practice Friday

KENT, Ohio The Doug Martin Era of Kent State University football begins Friday, April 2, with the opening of spring practice, which culminates with the annual Kent State Spring Football Game, Friday, April 30, at 7 p.m.
The Golden Flashes open spring drills with a new head coach, Martin, who joined the program in January 2003 as offensive coordinator. He was named head coach March 1, replacing Dean Pees to left to accept a coaching position with the New England Patriots in late February. Kent State also has a new defensive coordinator in Pete Rekstis, who came to Kent State from Youngstown State in December.
Kent State returns 20 players that started games during the 2003 season, including eight on offense and nine on defense, as well as each of its specialists. The Golden Flashes posted a 5-7 (4-4 MAC) mark last fall, finishing fourth in the MAC East Division.
