KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
The Kent State University womens golf team is in third place following round one of the Mercedes-Benz Womens Championship, hosted by the University of Tennessee here today (Oct. 21). The Golden Flashes posted a team total of 296, sitting behind Michigan State and Purdue.The Boilermakers carded a 4-over 288 and lead the Golden Flashes by eight shots following round one. Purdues Whitney Frykman and Onnarin Sattayabanphot, along with Arkansas Amanda McCurdy share the individual lead at 1-under 70.
Kent State sophomore Tara Delaney is tied for fourth, one shot behind the leaders after carding an even-par 71 in the opening round. Freshman Kirby Dreher is tied for 14th after a 3-over total of 74.
Senior Becky Wood shot 4-over 75 today and is tie for 19th, while sophomore Kira Meixner fired a 5-over 76 and is tied for 27th. Junior Karen Delaney rounds out the KSU five in a tie for 71st after shooting 85 in round one.
The tournament was is being played at Cherokee Country Club.
The Mercedes-Benz Womens Championship continues tomorrow with round two, beginning with tee times at 8 a.m.
