Parrish Named First-Team All-MAC, Muir and Brazen Picked for Second Team

KENT, Ohio Kent State University senior buck linebacker Justin Parrish (Landover Hills, Md./Fairmont Heights) was named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team while junior Daniel Muir (Lanham, Md./Parkdale) and senior Josh Brazen (Ada, Ohio/Ada) were named to the All-MAC Second Team the league announced today (Nov. 28) in conjunction with its annual football award winners.
Parrish, a 2004 second-team All-MAC and SI.com honorable mention All-American pick, is the first Kent State player to be selected to the first team since Brian Hallet and James Harrison in 2001. He led the Golden Flashes with 96 tackles, 20.5 tackles-for-losses, 8.5 quarterback sacks and three forced fumbles. His 20.5 TFLs set a school record and his career sack total of 25 also is a school mark.
A preseason Rotary Lombardi, Butkus and Nagurski Award candidate, Parrish posted double-figure tackle games four times this season, including a career-high 13 stops against Northern Illinois Oct. 22. He had two other games with nine tackles.
The league's second-leading punter, Brazen finished the year averaging 42.4 yards per punt. He had 18 kicks over 50 yards or more and also pinned 13 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Brazen averaged better than 45 yards a kick in five games this season and matched his career-long with a 62 yard boot against Bowling Green. Earlier this year, he was one of 58 candidates for the Ray Guy Award presented annually to the best punter in the country.
Muir, a junior defensive tackle, finished the year ranked seventh on the team with 52 total tackles, including 8.5 for losses. He had three sacks, recovered a fumble and was credited with seven quarterback hurries on the season.
He matched his career high with eight tackles versus Bowling Green Nov. 5.
The All-MAC team is selected by a vote of the leagues 12 coaches.
