KENT, Ohio -- Looking to halt a brief two-game losing streak and record its first Mid-American Conference victory of the season, the Kent State football team (1-3, 0-2 MAC) hits the road for the second straight week when it travels to Ypsilanti, Mich. On Saturday (Oct. 1) to face Eastern Michigan at Rynearson Stadium at 2 p.m.
The Golden Flashes mounted a fourth quarter rally to nearly recover from a 21-2 deficit last week before falling at Ohio, 35-32. Eastern Michigan (2-2, 1-0 MAC) meanwhile needed overtime before securing a 23-20 road victory over rival Central Michigan.
The loss at Ohio overshadowed some impressive individual performances, most notably the career day by junior receiver Najah Pruden, who set personal bests with seven catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns, including receptions of 84 and 60 yards. Senior linebacker Jon Sessler continued his strong play on defense, leading all players with 14 total tackles and also returned an interception 73 yards for a touchdown.
In the last meeting with Eastern Michigan, the Golden Flashes lit up the scoreboard, scoring a school-record 69 points, in a 69-17 rout at Dix Stadium Nov. 13, 2004. The game was the first between the schools since 1998 and the KSU win gave the Flashes victories in two of the last three meetings with the Eagles.
Following the Eastern Michigan game, Kent State is off until traveling to Annapolis, Md. Oct. 15 to play the United States Naval Academy in Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
