Women?s Golf sits in 10th place after rounds one of Mercedes-Benz Women?s Championship

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
The Kent State University women's golf team is in 10th place following round one of the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship here today (Oct. 13). The Golden Flashes carded a team total of 305, and are a mere two shots out of sixth place. Sophomore Kirby Dreher shot a 2-over 73 to pace Kent State.
The Golden Flashes are in a logjam of teamsas just 10 stroke seperate fourth place from 12th place. Auburn distanced itself from the field with a team total of 287. The Tigers lead tournament by nine strokes, while SMU's Lacey Jones is the individual leader after firing a 4-under 67.
"This is a hard golf course with very severe greens that are probably the most treacherous that we'll play all year," head coach Mike Morrow said. "It got pretty windy on our back nine, and on this course if a shot gets away just a little you'll be penalized. There's a fine line between good and trouble here."
Dreher stayed out of trouble much of the day, shooting a 2-over 73, and is in a tie for 10th place after one round. She mixed in three birdies with 11 pars in her round. Junior Tara Delaney had a four-over 75 in round one and is tied for 26th.
The rest of the Golden Flashes include senior Karen Delaney, who is tied for 38th at 77 through one round, sophomore Maddi Swaney, who shot 80 in round one and is tied for 55th, and freshman Lindsay Salsburg, who carded 85 today and is tied for 77th.
The Golden Flashes return to action for round two of the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, tomorrow, Oct. 14, at 8 a.m. The tournament is being held at Cherokee Country Club, a par-71, 5,932-yard layout.
