Wrestling finishes fourth at the Body Bar Invitational

The Kent State wrestling team placed fourth out of 10 teams with 83.5 points at the 2006 Body Bar Invitational at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York on Saturday, November 18, 2006. Six Golden Flashes earned spots on the victory stand. Host Cornell University won the team championship with 115 points.

Sophomore heavyweight Jermail Porter (Akron, Ohio/Firestne) and classmate Eric Chine (184 pounds) (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) each finished second in their respective weight classes. Porter was 2-1 and Chine finished the tournament with a 3-1 record. Porter's only loss was a 10-3 decision to Zach Hammond in the title match. Chine's lone loss was a 10-2 decision to Tyrel Todd in the championship match.

Senior Jason McGee (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) finished third at 149 pounds. McGee finished 4-1 in the tournament with his only loss coming against Jordan Leen of Cornell.

Senior Aaron Miller (Uniopolis, Ohio/Wapakoneta) placed fourth at 174 pounds. Miller went 2-2 for the tournament.

Sophomore Clint Sponseller (Glenmount, Ohio/West Holmes) placed sixth at 141 pounds.

Senior Ardian Ramadani (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) finished sixth at 197 pounds with a 3-2 mark.

“It was a very long day with a lot of wrestling,” said Andrassy. “We wrestled hard throughout the day, but we need to keep improving. We brought a smaller group (15 wrestlers) than most teams did. Once this entire lineup gets healthy, we're going to be competing for team championships at these tournaments.”

Kent State has a week off from competition before traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational on December 1 and 2.
