Women's Golf Slips to Fifth

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico The Kent State University womens golf team slipped three slots in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, falling to fifth place through two rounds after sitting in second yesterday. The Golden Flashes posted a team total of 13-over 301 in the second round and are seven shots out of the lead.
Kent State trails leader Florida, which jumped into the lead with a team total of 292 in today's (Feb. 25) second round. The Gators were in third place after round one. Amanda McCurdy from Arkansas leads the individual tournament at 4-under 140. She is one shot in front of North Carolina's Ann Laney.
The Golden Flashes still have three golfers among the top 25 in the Classic. Sophomore Tara Delaney jumped into a tie for fourth place with an even-par 72 in the second round. She is at 2-over 146 through two rounds and is six shots out of the lead. Freshman Kirby Dreher carded a 76 in round two and is tied for 16th with a total of 149. Senior Becky Wood is tied for 24th, having shot 75-76=151 through the opening two rounds.
Sophomore Kira Meixner is tied for 30th overall with rounds of 75-77=152, while freshman Maddi Swaney rounds out the KSU five in a tie for 56th after carding 78-81=159.
Junior Karen Delaney, competing as an individual in the tournament, is tied for 72nd with a 82-83=165.
The final round begins Sunday, Feb. 26, at 8 a.m.
The Lady Puerto Rico Classic is being held at the CoCo Beach Golf Course in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is a par-72, 6,000-yard layout.
