Flashes finish 5th at the Mercedez-Benz Championship

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The 15th ranked Kent State women's golf team carded their best round of the tournament with a four-over par 288 on Sunday and finished the tournament at +29. The Flashes rounded out the weekend 5th of 17 teams at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship at the par 71, 5,932-yard Cherokee C.C. in Knoxville, Tenn. Florida won the event with a three-day total of +13.
Junior Kirby Dreher (Ft. St. John, British Columbia / North Peace Secondary) fired the best round of the day for Kent State with a two-under par 69. Dreher finished the tournament tied for tenth with a +3 score, six strokes behind tournament winners Sandra Gal from Florida and Cydney Clanton from Auburn. The round of 69 was Dreher's best on the season by two strokes and the 216 score was tops for Dreher this season by eight strokes.
Senior Tara Delaney (Carlow, Ireland / Gaelcholaiste Cheatharlach) and freshman Freshman Martina Gaviar (Cordoba, Argentina) both finished the tournament at nine-over par and tied for 27th. Gaviar shot an even par 71 for the final round while Delaney shot a five over 76. The three-day total off 222 for Gaviar and Delaney was both season bests by two strokes.
Senior Kira Meixner (Richmond, B.C. / Hugh Boyd Secondary) carded her best round of the weekend Sunday by firing a one-over par 72 and finished the tournament at +12. Junior Maddi Swaney (Marietta, Ohio / Marietta) ended her weekend with a nine over-par 80. The 232 score by Swaney was a season best by two strokes.
The Kent State women's golf team concludes their fall season when they travel to Nevada for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Oct. 29.
