Women's Golf Finishes 12th in Season Opener

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The 25th-ranked Kent State women's golf team finished up their season opener by finishing 12th in the field of 15. at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. Kent State's third round team score of 305 was their lowest of the tournament. The Golden Flashes concluded the three day tournament with a combined team score of 938, placing them ahead of tournament host Ohio State, California and Florida State.
No. 8 Pepperdine, after shooting back-to-back 297 in rounds one and two, took the tournament in round three with a 288 the final day. That placed them nine shots ahead of second place with the final team score being 882. Finishing in second was No. 2 Arizona State with a score of 891, and No. 21 Florida came in third with 901.
For Kent State, junior Tara Delaney was the top finisher as she tied for 29th with a final round score of 74 and a total score of 229. Also shooting a 74 in round three was sophomore Kirby Dreher, finishing tied for 31st with a combined total of 230. Junior Kira Meixner and sophomore Maddi Swaney shot the best rounds of the tournament on Wednesday. Meixner had a 76 to finish at 237 and Swaney had a 79 giving her a 253. Also, senior Karen Delaney shot an 80 in her final round to close it out for Kent State.
Individually, Pepperdine finished one-two as Misun Cho and Javie Agojo finished first and second, respectively. Cho finished 5-over with a 218 to earn medalist honors, while Agojo finished one shot back with a 6-over, 219. Sandra Gal of Florida, Pernilla Lindberg of Oklahoma State, Azahara Munoz of Arizona State, and Christa Spedding of Texas A&M, also finished tied for second with final scores of 6-over 219.
The Golden Flashes are back in action Feb. 23-24 in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
