KENT, Ohio -- The Kent State University women's golf team received six votes in favor of it entering the top 25 of the Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association Division I Coaches poll, which was announced on April 5.
The Golden Flashes missed out on reaching top-25 status, but have made an impression on Division I coaches with their performance on the links this season. Kent State has recorded six top-10 finishes thus far in the 2006-07 campaign -- including a third-place finish at the Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational at Poipu, Hawaii (Nov. 22-23, 2006). The squad fired a 294 -- its best round of the tournament -- to total 893 points in the 54-hole event.
Most recently, KSU tied for 13th place at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic (March 23-25) in Athens, Ga. with a final-round score of 303, placing the team at 75-over par with a total score of 927.
Duke University took the top ranking in the poll by taking 28 of the 30 first-place votes. Arizona State University, the University of Auburn, the University of Georgia and Pepperdine University rounded out the top five.
The Golden Flashes are back in action from April 21-22, heading to Ohio's capitol city for the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus. The event will be KSU's last of the season before the Mid-American Conference Championships, which get underway on April 27.
