Flashes Hope To Extend Winning Streak To Two At Tar Heel Invitational

Two weeks after opening the 2008-09 season with a bang by tying host Michigan State for top honors at the Mary Fossum Invitational, Kent State travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take part in the Tar Heel Invitational, Friday-Sunday (Oct. 3-5) at Finley Golf Club on the UNC campus.
The Tar Heels and Flashes will be joined by Auburn, Central Florida, Florida State, Furman, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, UNC-Greensboro, N.C. State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Texas A & M, Tulsa, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest as the 18-team field competes for the title at the 54-hole event.
The Golden Flashes will be led by Kirby Dreher (Fort St. John, B.C.), who earned medalist honors at the Mary Fossum Invitational, giving the senior her second title in the last three events (she also won last year's MAC Championship individual title). However, KSU will be without the services of sophomore Martina Gavier (Cordoba, Argentina) this weekend, as she is in Australia competing for Argentina in the World Amateur Team Championships. She is joined in the competition by recent KSU grads Kira Meixner (Canada) and Tara Delaney (Ireland).
Joining Dreher in the lineup at UNC will be senior Maddi Swaney (Marietta, Ohio), sophomore McKenzie Jackson (Uniontown, Ohio) and freshmen Mercedes Germino (Necochea, Argentina) and Shamira Marshall (Macedonia, Ohio).
