Senior quarterback Julian Edelman (Redwood City, Calif./College of San Mateo) ran his way into the record books and was named the Kent State Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 17. Wednesday (Nov. 12) against Temple, Edelman helped Kent State improve to 3-7 as they defeated Temple 41-38.
In the game, Edelman was 18-for-26 for 232 yards. He also contributed 144 yards rushing and a career-high three rushing touchdowns in a game. With his rushing output, Edelman went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season. He also became only the 25th player (31st time) in Football Bowl Subdivision history to throw and rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.
Edelman also joins former quarterback Joshua Cribbs to accomplish this feat for the Golden Flashes. Cribbs reached the mark twice in 2001 (1,516 pass and 1,019 rush) and 2002 (1,014 pass, 1,057 rush). Kent State becomes only the fifth school in FBS history to have two different players reach the mark, joining Air Force, Louisiana-Lafayette, Navy and Nebraska.
For the season, Edelman has 1580 yards passing and 1095 yards rushing.
Kent State returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Northern Illinois in their final home game of the 2008 season. Kickoff with the Huskies is scheduled for 7 p.m.
