KENT, Ohio - Kent State senior offensive lineman Augustus Parrish has been selected to play in the 2009 East-West Shrine Game. A two-time second team All-MAC honoree at left tackle, Parrish is the first Golden Flashes player to participate in the annual game since Eric Wilkerson in 1989 and the sixth overall.
In 2008, the Temple Hills, Md., native garnered his second consecutive second-team all-MAC selection. Parrish anchored an offensive line that, despite its relative inexperience (two redshirt freshmen, a sophomore and a junior college transfer), paved the way for the Flashes to lead the MAC while ranking 10th in the country with 230.6 rushing yards per game. A durable player, he started the final 30 games of his career and 36 times overall.
The 84th edition of the East-West Shrine Game is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. EST Jan. 17 at Robertson Stadium on the University of Houston campus and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
The East-West Shrine Game is the oldest and one of the most respected of the postseason collegiate bowl games. Every year since 1925, the East-West Game has been played to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children and to raise awareness about the expert orthopaedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care, available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children.
