KENT, Ohio - Kent State senior linebacker Cedrick Maxwell (Tampa, Fla.) earned a well-deserved spot on the All-Mayday Team which recognizes players who showed a tremendous amount of toughness and determination throughout the season in overcoming adversity on the field. Selected by ESPN college football analyst Mark May, the team was recently unveiled by the network.
Maxwell started Kent State's first five games at outside linebacker before suffering a broken left fibula Sept. 27 at Ball State. He returned to action Oct. 25 at Miami after missing just two games and wound up starting the final three contests, including a season-ending win at MAC champion Buffalo after re-injuring his leg 10 days earlier against Northern Illinois (suffering a hit where the break occurred, but not re-breaking it). Prior to the contest against the Bulls, he told the coaching staff and trainers that he was not going to miss his final game.
Maxwell finished the season with 38 tackles and a fumble recovery, starting eight of the 10 games in which he played.
This marks the second consecutive year that a member of the Golden Flashes has been represented on the All-Mayday Team. In 2007, senior defensive back Fritz Jacques missed just four games after suffering what appeared to be a season- and career-ending torn ACL.
