12th-Ranked Flashes Travel To Texas

High Fives: Kent State will attempt to continue its string of consistently strong showings this weekend at the 15th Annual Texas A & M “Mo”morial Tournament. Hosted by the Aggies at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, the 14-team field features a trio of top 25 opponents (according to GolfStat) in Denver (11), TCU (24) and Texas A & M (25). The Golden Flashes have finished fifth or better in all six of their tournaments this season.
Flashes Achieve High Water Mark: On the heels of a strong showing at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Kent State moved up to 12th in the latest GolfStat/Division I national rankings. The lofty standing is the highest in the 10-year history of the program. The previous best came this past fall when the Flashes were 13th. KSU is 17th in the most recent Golfweek poll.
Individually Speaking: Golfweek also has a trio of Flashes ranked among the nation's best. Senior Kira Meixner is 36th, while junior Kirby Dreher stands 52nd and freshman Martina Gavier is 79th.
All Good Things Must Come To An End: Dreher's amazing run of five consecutive top 10 finishes to open the season came to an end with her 26th-place showing at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Dreher is second on the team with a 73.8 scoring average.
...But Meixner Has Her Own Streak Going: After finishing tied for second and first in the team's opening tournaments of the fall, Meixner “struggled” a bit in her next two outings, finishing 43rd and 17th. However, the Richmond, B.C., native has put together a pair of top 10 showings to open the spring while bolstering her team-leading 73.4 scoring average.
Don't Cry For Me Argentina: Only a freshman, Gavier has been a solid contributor for the Flashes from day one. The Cordoba, Argentina, native's impressive performance includes three top 10 finishes and a 74.3 scoring average.
Up Next: Kent State has two weeks off before traveling to Athens, Ga. for the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, which is hosted by 10th-ranked Georgia.
