Women?s Golf Ranks 15th In NGCA GPA Survey

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State women's golf team ranks 15th in the nation according to the recently released National Golf Coaches Association 2007-08 All-Scholar Team Top 25. South Alabama topped the list with a 3.734 team grade point average, while the Golden Flashes checked in at 3.544.
The only member of the Mid-American Conference on the list, KSU was one of only three Division I schools in the country to rank in the top 25 both on the course and in the classroom at the conclusion of the season. Ranked 13th by Golfstat and 15th by Golfweek, the Flashes were joined by New Mexico (22/20) and Stanford (24/25) on the elite list.
“We are fortunate to have the best of both worlds here at Kent State,” eight-time MAC Coach of the Year Mike Morrow said. “The young women we recruit are true student-athletes who we expect to excel both in the classroom and on the course. The fact that only two other schools in the country are ranked in both areas is a real testament to what this group has accomplished.”
In May, KSU claimed its 10th consecutive MAC title en route to earning its eighth straight NCAA Regional berth. In addition, in early July, Martina Gavier, Kira Meixner and Maddi Swaney were all named All-American Scholars by the NGCA.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.
