KSU Heads To Florida For Central District Invitational

In action for the second week in a row, the Kent State women's golf team travels to Parrish, Fla. for the Central District Invitational Feb. 16-17. Hosted by Michigan State at the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness G.C., the 15-team field will play 36 holes Monday followed by Tuesday's final round.
Ranked 21st in the country, the Golden Flashes will have to contend with five other teams ranked in Golfstat's most recent top 25 poll, headed up by No. 7 Duke and 10th-ranked Auburn. The other ranked squads are No. 14 Purdue, No. 15 LSU and the host Spartans, who are 19th.
Rounding out the field are Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio State, South Carolina, TCU and Texas.
Kent State finished third at the 2008 Central District Invitational, which was won by Michigan State. Senior Kirby Dreher (Fort St. John, B.C.) and sophomore Martina Gavier (Cordoba, Argentina), who both posted top-10 finishes in last year's event, return to anchor the line-up. The pair will be joined by freshmen Mercedes Germino (Necochea, Argentina), Shamira Marshall (Macedonia, Ohio) and Mandi Morrow (Kent, Ohio) as head coach Mike Morrow fields a squad comprised of four underclassmen for the fifth time in six events this year.
KSU will be paired with LSU and Purdue the first day, which begins with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring for the tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.
