Women?s Golf Maintains Fifth-Place Standing At Lady Puerto Rico Classic

SAN JUAN, P.R. No. 18 Kent State remained in fifth-place through the completion of the second round at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. No. 15 Purdue surged into the overall team lead with an even-par 288 (592 total) to take a 10-stroke lead over seventh-ranked Georgia into the final round. Meanwhile, the Golden Flashes are tied with Tennessee for fifth at 612.
Senior Kirby Dreher carded a 76 in Monday's round to remain atop the KSU contingent -- tied for 18th overall at 151 (+7). Freshmen Mercedes Germino paced the Flashes in round two, shooting a 75 to stand tied for 20th at 152. Freshman Shamira Marshall is two shots back in 23rd after her second consecutive 77, while sophomore Martina Gavier (T-27, 155) and freshman Mandi Morrow (T-65, 162) posted scores of 76 and 82, respectively.
In the race for medalist, there is a four-way tie at two-over par 146 involving Purdue's Maria Hernandez, TCU's Prisela Campbell, N.C. State's Lauren Doughtie and Indiana's Laura Nochta.
The 54-hole tournament is being held at the par 72, 7,168 yard Coco Beach Golf Club. Play concludes Tuesday morning with a 7:00 a.m. EST shotgun start.
