Track and Field teams to compete at Akron Quad

Kent State's track and field teams will make the short trip to Akron to compete in the Akron Quad at the University of Akron on Friday (4/10) and Saturday (4/11).

The two-day event begins Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the women's and men's hammer competition. Senior Levania Henderson (Westland, Mich./Churchill) enters the weekend ranked 22nd in the nation in the event. For the men, juniors Matthew Pfleger (Garrettsville, Ohio/James A. Garfield) and Anthony Connor (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) have both registered NCAA Regional marks this season.

Saturday's schedule begins at 11 a.m. with the javelin, shot put and discus. In the women's discus, junior Brittni Borrero (Cumberland, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) ranks first in the MAC with an NCAA Regional mark of 169'-3”. That mark ranks sixth on the Golden Flashes' all-time list. She has also won the women's discus in each of the first two meets of the 2009 outdoor season. Henderson and sophomore Samantha Fetter (Darragh, Pa./Hempfield Area) figure to be amongst the leaders in the shot put as both have had regional qualifying marks this season.

Running events will commence at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Junior Jessica Lhotsky (Medina, Ohio/Highland) figures to be one of the top KSU athletes competing as she currently leads the MAC in the women's 800 meters.

Other Golden Flashes who have registered NCAA Regional marks this season include senior Joe Parker (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) who leads the MAC in the steeplechase and classmate Kim Hamilton (Cave Junction/Illinois Valley), who is tops in the conference in the javelin (164'-11”) and is also the defending MAC Female Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Duke Invitational.
