Strong Second Round Pushes Flashes Into Tie For Seventh In Florida

PARRISH, Fla. -- Kent State will head into the final day of the Central District Invitational in a tie for seventh place, thanks to the fourth-best score of the second round.
Juniors Martina Gavier and Sarah Bradley led the Golden Flashes' resurgence with matching 74s to help Kent State jump from a tie for 13th into their current position, as the team posted an 11-over, 299. No. 18 Florida (571, -5) holds a commanding 20-stroke lead over TCU, while the Flashes are just nine strokes out of third place at 605 (+29).
Coached by Kent State Hall of Famer Jan Dowling, the Gators turned a four-stroke lead into a runaway with a seven-under par 281 in the day's second round.
Bradley is tied for 17th at six-over, 150, while Gavier and sophomore Mandi Morrow stand in a tie for 23rd at 151. Shamira Marshall (T44, 154) and Mercedes Germino (T53, 156) round out the Flashes line-up.
Arkansas' Kelli Shean (140, -4) holds a slim one-stroke lead over Florida's Isabelle Lendl.
Hosted by Michigan State, 13 of the 15 schools in the field are ranked among the nation's top 50 teams according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Ratings, including Kent State at No. 31. Now in it's 10th year, the Central District Invitational is held at the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Country Club
The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
