Scouting the Flashes
Kent State had four solid showings during the fall portion of the season, as the Golden Flashes had a trio of second-place finishes along with a third-place result. Kent State was the runner-up at three prestigious events: the 11-team Mary Fossum Invitational at Michigan State, the 13-team Notre Dame Invitational and the 17-team Las Vegas Showdown, hosted by UNLV. The Golden Flashes placed third in a 15-team field at the Mercedes-Benz Championship at the University of Tennessee.
Senior Martina Gavier (Cordoba, Argentina) was the top finisher for the Flashes in each outing, including second-place finishes at Mary Fossum and Las Vegas. Through 12 rounds in the fall, Gavier averaged 71.3 strokes.
Head coach Mike Morrow has six capable golfers from whom he can draw his squad from this spring. Of the six that played during the fall season, no golfer averaged over 77.0 strokes per round; four golfers had at least one round at or below par, while all six had a best round of one-over or better for the autumn season.
