Twelve of the nation’s top 50 programs will participate in 16-team event at Stanford Golf Course Oct. 14-16
KENT, Ohio – Continuing the team’s tradition of facing some of the nation’s toughest competition year in and year out, the Kent State women’s golf team will participate in the 15-team Stanford Intercollegiate Oct. 14-16 at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
This year marks the first time Kent State will participate at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
The tournament format features 18 holes each of the three days of the tournament. Tee times for the first two days will begin at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time; the final day of action will begin at 7:30 a.m. PT. The Stanford Golf Course is a par 71 and will measure approximately 6,100 yards for the event. Live stats will be available through golfstat.com.
Kent State will begin Friday’s first round off the No. 10 tee beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT. The Golden Flashes are matched with Denver and UC Davis.
Scouting the Golden Flashes
Kent State tied for ninth in the highly competitive Windy City Classic in the previous outing for the Golden Flashes. Freshman Jennifer Ha (Calgary, Alberta), who will start in the No. 1 slot for the Golden Flashes for the first time this weekend, was the team’s top finisher for the second straight outing at the Windy City, finishing in a tie for 11th place in the 81-golfer field.
Joining Ha in Kent State’s lineup are seniors Mercedes Germino (Necochea, Argentina), Shamira Marshall (Macedonia, Ohio) and Mandi Morrow (Kent, Ohio) and sophomore Erin Hawe (Walton, New Zealand).
Scouting the Tournament Field
Kent State is one of 16 teams participating in the Stanford Intercollegiate. Joining the Golden Flashes and the host Stanford are Arizona State, Denver, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Southern Cal, Texas, UC-Davis, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Washington.
While Kent State’s last tournament, the Windy City Classic Oct. 3-4, featured six Top 25 teams, the field at the Stanford Intercollegiate will be just as daunting. All 16 teams are ranked in the top 75 according to Golfweek’s Sagarin rankings, with Kent State coming in at No. 45. In the Sept. 28 release of the Golf World/NGCA coaches’ poll, nine teams were ranked in the top 25, with two more receiving votes.
After a one-year hiatus, the Stanford Intercollegiate returns to action. In 2009, Arizona State captured the team title with a four-stroke victory over UCLA.
Next Up
Kent State will conclude the fall portion of the 2011-12 season with the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas, Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
